Fibromyalgia

Chiropractic care gets excellent results with fibromyalgia. Why? Because when there is a pain in the neck, the back or the upper and lower extremities, nine times out of ten it involves a pinched nerve. Chiropractic is the first line of defense for a pinched nerve as it takes pressure off the nervous system with a specific chiropractic adjustment/alignment.

Fibro means fiber or fibrous, involving the soft tissues of the body and the tendons. Algia means pain and it means the condition of. This also involves inflammation. This means there is a pain in the muscles and soft tissue fibers of the body. Fibromyalgia is now ranked number three behind osteo- arthritis, and rheumatoid arthritis. The typical symptoms are chronic fatigue, tiring easily, am-stiffness, stress/anxiety, sleep disturbances, I.B.S., and tingling/numbness. Tingling/numbness is also called paresthesias and usually involves a pinched nerve.

Fibromyalgia involves neck pain in 85% of the cases, low back pain in 79% of the cases and mid back pain in 72% of the cases. There are 15 or more painful sites in the body in 56% of the cases. Headaches account for 53% of the cases.

Some of the causes of fibromyalgia are trauma or stress, irritated nerves (subluxations), lack of exercise, nutritional deficiencies, and toxicity. Exercise has been known to tremendously help fibromyalgia patients. The best form of passive exercise for the spine, of course, is the chiropractic adjustment. Also, stress reduction helps, along with a good nutritional protocol. In order to reduce stress: Go for a walk, and laugh more. Nutrition that helps is: Vitamin E, Malic Acid, Magnesium, B-6, Manganese, Thiamin, and an Aluminum detox. So, therefore, avoid aluminum cookware, aluminum soda cans, underarm deodorants, antacids, and table salt. Use air dried sea salt instead. It’s also best to avoid smoking, alcohol, soft drinks, coffee, and prescription and non-prescription drugs.

Fibromyalgia: A Chiropractors Approach

Chiropractic care has been proven to give moderate improvement to greatly improved. Chiropractic is more effective than drugs. A chiropractic study was done on fibromyalgia patients after 30 treatments. It showed that: 77% had reduced pain, 63% had increased sleep quality, and 74% had an increase in energy and a decrease in fatigue.

Another factor in fibromyalgia is it could be related to food intolerance which leads to muscle pain and fatigue. This should be checked for and it can be treated successfully with allergy elimination technique. Other factors are chemical exposure, thyroid (mostly women), viruses, parasites and heavy metal (mercury and aluminum) toxicity. Also, leaky gut could be involved as this causes an altered intestine permeability. The dosages for malic acid is 200mg, and magnesium is 500mg.
